Question: True or False… The US Government cant stop the “War on Drugs” ONLY because they would have to fire cops?
ending the war on drugs would save us billions in money from NOT funding the war on drugs anymore ALONG with also adding BILLIONS on top of that from Legalizing and taxing Marijuana
Now my question is THE ONLY REAL REASON THEY CANT STOP IS BECAUSE THEY WOULD EFFECTIVELY BE TAKING AWAY 80% OF “WORK” FROM COPS WHO WOULD NEED TO BE LET OFF DUE TO NOT BEING NEEDED WITHOUT THIS HUGE REdikULIOUS WAR ON DRUGS
Most lives that are destroyed in court are done so on NON VIOLENT offenders
while we DONT HAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR RAPIEST AND MURDERERS? THIS IS ASS-BACKWARDS.
April showers… they would not want a job where they cant impose their will over others.my father is a cop and its a trait most of them have in common. they could not be in a position where they cant be telling everyone what to do
Steelsink- You give a Straw-man argument, then say imprison more citizens who would NOT rob you(young kids smoking weed) if they saw you alone in the street. Then say bring more cops.
thats one of the worst plans i have ever heard i hope you where kidding.

Question: Has any country in the world given up its “war on drugs” because of too high human and material costs?
Maybe some country in Latin America?

Answer by Shoulderblade33
Not yet, as far as I know. Problem here is that the ‘war on drugs’ becomes an industry in its own right. The smaller players have to stick into the plan and co-operate with the larger ones (i.e. US) in order to sustain the viability of the effort. In other words if everyone decided to go with a plan B it could be arranged but otherwise everything just stays as it is.
Question: Now that Hugo Chavez has pulled his support for Colombia because the US stations troops there..?
Do you think he’s seriously considering war?
“Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez warned that Bogotá’s plan to allow US troops to use Colombian military bases could unleash war in Latin America.
Last month, Chávez removed his ambassador from Bogotá and froze diplomatic relations with Colombia, warning he might interrupt bilateral commerce since he views the agreement as posing a threat to his “socialist revolution” and the balance of power in the region.”

He’s not considering war…he sincerly believes the US is planning on assassinating him and taking over Venezuela, using Colombia to launch their attack. The man’s off his rocker. Even if the US did want him dead or removed from power, they won’t have to do anything. Chavez’s own madness and paranoia will do him in.
Timmy- Many horrible things were done during the Bush administration. But Bush isn’t in power anymore, and whatever plans his adminstration had to assassinate world leaders and install puppet dictatorships have been cancelled. Chavez doesn’t realize America under Obama isn’t trying to kill him.

If the US could end prohibiton on alcohol but not end our “Drug War” with Colombia et al, can it be that its easier to kill Latin Americans instead of Canadians/British Commonwealthers?

Prohibition was a stupid amendment that was supported by the WCTU and just about no one else. It was wildly unpopular. Worse, it was widely laughed at, as liquor was imported across the great lakes all throughout prohibition. It was even easier to thwart the law in winter when Lake Erie froze over.
So when the congress rescinded the 18th amendment and ended prohibition, that enjoyed widespread support.
Drugs are another issue altogether. There is no lobby for drugs, and drugs are seen as an evil. Therefore there is support, however misguided, for a so called War on Drugs. And that makes the war on drugs still socially and militarily acceptable.
Somewhere I read that the whole War on Drugs/DARE program has been a colossal waste of money and completely failed in its goals. What the US ought to do is license and tax drugs instead of this silly ongoing war….
