Here are some suggestions
to help you plan local reflection and education events to promote peace in Colombia
and a better U.S.-Colombia policy. Please feel free to use your imagination
in your celebration of Semana Por La Paz; these are just a few suggestions.
Even if you have only a few people, there are many creative things you can do
in your community to raise awareness and connect with people all over the U.S.
and in Colombia. Click

- Urge Congress
to support the House Resolution (H.RES.822)
promoting local peace building efforts in Colombia and recognizing the courageous
efforts of Colombian civil society and churches to establish peace communities,
advance non-violent conflict resolution, and advocate for human dignity.
- Raise the
issue of peace in Colombia with congressional candidates before they're elected!
Educating members of Congress before they are elected is a very effective
form of advocacy. You can take one of many steps to do this, including sending
the informational
packet on Colombia to congressional candidates in your district and state,
prepared by the Latin America Working Group. You can order packets (for
free!) by emailing Jennifer at jtrowbridge[at]lawg.org with your address and
the number of packets you'd like.

- Gathering
an ecumenical group to visit your district congressional offices!
Invite a group of ecumenical congregation members or religious leaders to
reiterate our ecumenical brothers and sisters' concerns. Visit the Latin America
Working Group (LAWG) website for tips on meeting
with members of Congress. Contact

interested groups in your region.
One of the reasons
that we come together to celebrate Semana Por La Paz is to show solidarity
with our Colombian counterparts. A simple way to share your solidarity is to
take pictures of yourself and your community celebrating Semana Por
La Paz. Send them to info[at]peaceincolombia.org and we will share them
with Colombians who also participated in the week for peace.
